Reporters and organizers elsewhere in Ohio often ask how we got this on the ballot. See Start Your Own Repeal Effort for a plain-language breakdown of Ohio's initiative vs. referendum process (Form 6-I vs. Form 6-J, ORC §§731.28-731.31), the official Form 6-I initiative petition (PDF), and the Secretary of State's Ballot Questions and Issues Handbook (PDF).
For a verifiable, official copy of the exact ballot language, request public records directly from the Trumbull County Board of Elections. Sample ballots for the November 3, 2026 election aren't generated until roughly 46 days before Election Day, so in the meantime request the certified resolution or approved draft ballot language on file.
The Board of Elections is required to publish "Election Notices" for the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB) 100 days and 46 days before any election. These notices include a "Local Questions and Issues" section listing the exact title and summary text of every certified ballot measure. Monitor the Trumbull County BOE website for the "100 Day Notice for the November 3, 2026 General Election."
Before a citizen initiative reaches the Board of Elections, the final petition and resulting ballot language are filed with the City Auditor (or City Clerk) for public inspection before transmittal to the county. You can request the official transmittal letter and attached ballot language directly from the Warren City Auditor's office as a municipal record of the certified text.
